Edited 5 months agoNothing need be said about this BE Trio performance, as it is the pinnacle of jazz ensemble. This and "Waltz For Debby" are from the same session at the VV, so how do they differ? W4D is a showcase of Evans' brilliant piano work. Saturday/VV is a bass feature, showing off how master Evans interacts with young genius LaFaro. The interplay here is stunning.
With the exception of the last track, this pressing sounds incredible. Amazing detail and soundstage, and LaFaro's bass solos pop right out, everything I want to hear in a fine record. I've kissed a few frogs already, and the last OJC I had (2008) also exhibited light crackle throughout B3. Same is happening here, though all other tracks are unaffected. "Jade Visions" is such a short track, so I'm willing to overlook it.
You must have this recording in your Jazz collection, period.
6 stars.
