Notes
Note: Although the Pitman letter "P" is sometimes hard to see, the one on the B Side was extremely faint.
It has been stamped above the matrix number string between the number "1" and "SX".
Also, something etched after the letter " H" (which is half way around the record, from the matrix string), was undecipherable.
So I did not add it to this submission.
This release has a single pressing ring @ 69mm. It also has the letter "P" stamped on both runouts.
Both characteristics denote a Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Pitman pressed record.
Etched on both sides are "SX" [Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria], which sourced the metal parts for pressing.
"Grateful Dead Records" labels are light blue to dark blue with a white burst at the 10 o'clock position.
Both A & B Sides have title & first two tracks above spindle hole. Side designation is on left side of label and reads
alphanumerically {Side 1 & 2}. Catalog number on right side label above "Mastered by George Horn".
Rim text {along the bottom of label}: "℗ © 1974 GRATEFUL DEAD RECORDS • ALL SONGS ICE NINE PUBLISHING (ASCAP)".
Front album cover sleeve- Embossed on left side is the word "AUTHENTIC".
This was the bands response to being subjected to record counterfeiting.
Rear album cover sleeve- bottom left side reads: "℗ © 1974 GRATEFUL DEAD RECORDS, SAN RAFAEL, CA 94902".
Mirrored & upside down in a stylized Aztecan text , top both sides of the cover/sleeve read: "UGLY RUMORS".
Originally intended to be "UGLY ROOMERS" (at the Mars Hotel).
Besides on the labels, the catalog number can only be found in one other place on this entire release,
on the right side of spine, before price code (0698).
These three similar Columbia Records releases are probably the same as this one, Terre Haute or Santa Maria pressings.
But they all lack any more credible information, besides a view of the pressing ring: The Grateful Dead - From The Mars Hotel & [Invalid Release].
This other The Grateful Dead - From The Mars Hotel, is identical in every respect except runouts.
