This is a superb Scott Joplin record. Despite the budget pressing it has strong somewhat bright sound but very forward and vivid. Harry Warren or "Fingers" plays a honky tonk upright piano to the manner born with a small backing group. Old fashioned standards that were singalongs in days gone by (after a few drinks in a packed pub or bar) are given the syncopated treatment plus Joplin standards like Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer. I love this record. Is this really the famous song composer and lyricist Harry Warren of Tin Pan Alley? Warren ed in 1985 so there was plenty of time.... It's a great shame this LP has never been digitally remastered because I could never losten again to other Joplin albums for example Joshua Rifkin. Their playing is tame by comparison. Warren is entirely authentic and full of life. Highly recommended.
