My copy presents the "DMM" mark within deadwax space. I had to clean this copy (many times- Ultrasonic technologie) before appreciating this Pressing.

    My recommandations for this copy.

Why is the US release pressed by Record Industry ( in my experience the best pressing plant in Europe), yet the Europe release is pressed by Optimal?

The cover is not a photo montage. What you see is real.
Storm Thorgerson was fed an idea from Gilmour about an empty bed on a beach. Storm liked the idea, but suggested "Well, lets have 500 of them" Which was a crazy idea itself.
Initially he tried to shoot in L.A, but could not find the beds. Returning to England, he found 700 old iron hospital beds and brought them down to a beach in Devon, UK. He set them up which took a while. Then it started to rain, and the shoot was canceled.
Steve O´Rourke (Manager of PF) was shocked that Storm never got any photo because he knew Storm had a schedule to keep.
UK rain is grey and sad thing, he could not see the beds, which was the reason he canceled it.
2 weeks later they re-set the beds and Storm finally got his photos.
Storm never revealed the cost of this shoot other than it was embarrassing expensive.

For all intents and purposes a Roger Waters solo album, 1983's "The Final Cut" was marred by internal tensions and creative differences. A notoriously difficult and bleak listen, it received negligible praise in comparison to its predecessors. And in light of Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour working on solo projects in the wake of the rather aptly named "The Final Cut", it was safe to assume that the future of the band in serious doubt. Inevitably, these solo outings were all in vain, resulting in the proposal of a new Pink Floyd project. In 1985, as CBS were keen to get the ball rolling on the next Pink Floyd album, an utterly obdurate Waters candidly refused to fulfil his contractual obligations. After a legal dispute over who exactly had the rights to the Pink Floyd name, Waters resigned and settled out-of-court to avoid financial ruin, sanctioning Gilmour, Mason and returning member Richard Wright (credited only as a session musician) to record their thirteenth album, "A Momentary Lapse of Reason".

Now that Waters was not in the picture, the band had to prove they could survive without him. Thusly, Gilmour assumed the leadership role and steered the band in a more music-oriented direction to address the ensuing deficiencies. Consequently, Mason and Wright's contributions were limited. At this point, Gilmour feared failure and was desperate to ensure Pink Floyd MK III's success, which meant using new technology and bringing in better musicians to help him realize his vision. And considering Waters' conceptual approach had informed the overall material on previous albums, starting afresh with a different method would be daunting to say the least, with the bulk of material arising from demos and Gilmour's aborted third solo album. Not by any means an accomplished lyricist, Gilmour hired Anthony Moore to assist him in writing the more conventional tracks on the album, "Learning To Fly" and "On the Turning Away". In addition to the aforementioned songs, "The Dogs of War" and "One Slip" are as memorable and magical as any other items in the Pink Floyd catalogue by virtue of some reverb-heavy production and catchy hooks. Released in 1987, the album was a commercial success, overtaking "The Final Cut" in of sales. With this in mind, Gilmour's capacity as the figurehead of Pink Floyd was cemented.

"A Momentary Lapse of Reason" may not be as flawless as "The Dark Side of the Moon" or chillingly beautiful as "Wish You Were Here", but it is just as dramatic, driving and atmospheric. Having opted not to reshape Pink Floyd to fit his own worldview as Waters had, Gilmour chose to showcase his own talents as a guitarist. ittedly, his strong personality and progressive rock partiality culminates in a less experimental record that lacks depth, though a greater emphasis on songcraft and immensely improved efficiency more than redresses the balance.

just got my original pressing LP promo copy, notable amounts of crackle, so not sure if from prior usage or just the pressing itself. But the sound stage and warmth of imaging makes for a wonderful experience. The quiet ages get crackle throughout, but it's a 30 plus year old LP from who knows what type of prior owners, will enjoy it and not go for the repress
