Stone Temple Pilots – Nº4

This was a pleasant surprise, much better than I was expecting from the early reviews. In fact its a definite improvement over the VMP release, have not heard the MOV. But this is definitely more dynamic with a great more separation with the vocal than the VMP and possibly the original CD mix. It is a pleasure with their hardest, possibly most underrated album. Just turn it up and enjoy at a nice price.

The dust jacket arrived looking like it had been through hell and back. That’s Amazon for you. Thankfully the record itself is fine and sounds terrific. My MOV copy got damaged by a defective stylus so I bought this to replace it. This pressing doesn’t sound like a downgrade to me at all. The splatter is also really well done. I’m pleasantly surprised with this one and I highly recommend it.

Just got this today, Super impressed by the sound quality on the platter! MOV does it again! always happy with the pressing quality!

Setup-MT-2, MA252 and Heresy IV

No pressing issues but for sure the mid-range suffers from serious congestion, giving it a bit of the wet blanket feel that induces a sense of suffocation. If Barry G cut this then either his source wasn't great or he was having an off day. For example the difference in "air" is night and day going from Glide to I Got You. In the end not unlistenable and it will be a great placeholder for when someone like RKS or KG gets a crack at it (sorry Barry!).

Update: Atlanta actually sounds really good. Again, sorry Barry!

Lucky enough to grab this pressing on eBay. Presentation is really cool, certainly the best ever with the cut out star and white inner. Yes, it could have been in an anti-static sleeve but then the effect wouldn't work.

Sound is better than expected, as is most of the time with Music on Vinyl. Certainly the best pressing, there is a lot of bass. Scott's voice is a little low but that could be blamed with the original mix. Hopefully MOV repress this as it is rare to get this now, so maybe other people can get their hands on a similar pressing.

Solid sounding for most systems. I have no issues with this and it sounds killer to me. I'm not a colored vinyl guy but it looks good and sounds good too. For the cost of em , totally solid grab. I didn't have it and now I do. Only way I'd rebuy is a AP 45 cut.

This album wasn’t recorded well to begin with and the sound quality has never been good no matter how it is listened to. Knowing that going into listening to it, it’s an ok mastering and pressing, plays nicely, no seam splits and my copy isn’t warped. The splatter looks super cool and for the $25 purchase price isn’t that bad. Comes with a lyrics insert and a decent poly-lined sleeve.

Got my copy today and I think it plays very good. For the price $25 I'm very happy to have a good clean copy. The color looks great and it plays fine on my modest system. Sony STR DH 190, Sony SSCS 5 Speakers and Sony PSLX BT 310 Turntable.

Ok I have the MOV and now this Rhino Rocktober version and while the MOV is better it's not night and day and this splatter vinyl is NOT crap. And that goes for most of the Rocktober titles over the years, they're very good. As far as the music itself this album and Shangi La Dee Da are often overlooked and underrated albums IMHO. Very recommended. Many times the first reviewers on Discogs are the complainers.
