Sufjan Stevens – Greetings From Michigan The Great Lake State

Sounds fantastic. Buyer beware though, many sellers don’t realize that they actually have a reissue, so you have to ask them to double check the runouts. If it’s sealed, it’s highly unlikely that it is this original press.

My copy sounds great - maybe better than the original i have.

Maybe I have a magic turntable, but it sounds great to me. A little noise but nothing too overbearing. For an early 2000s record, the mix and the vinyl mastering is excellent, though I do recall that this was actually released on vinyl when it came out. Why I didn't by then is still a mystery to me as it's a beautiful record right up there with Illinoise.

Unfortunately like the other review says, my pressing also has a lot of static noise and popping. There are songs like Romulus that sound so muddy I cannot make out the words. I am not the type of vinyl listener to be hyper critical of sound quality, but it's pretty inconsistent. Getting this on clearance seemed like a steal but considering I know cannot return it, it's a shame because I love Sufjan.

Beautiful and clean pressing with no surface noise. No distortion despite the 70minute run length over 4 sides.

Despite my initial hesitation regarding Third Man Pressing, this is a phenomenal release both in packaging and record quality, a huge step up from the repress I owned before. I'm really happy to have been able to snag a copy. Michigan will always be Sufjan's best album to me, such a melancholic nostalgic experience without a single bad track.

Looks lovely, sounds really bad. Such a shame as I was hoping it was an upgrade on my old cd

Sigh. Yet another Sufjan album that's going to be sent directly back due to a terrible press. Disc 1 was - ok - a few pops here and there but livable. Disc 2 is another story. For starters, the edge of the record is entirely chipped - it looks like they ran the edge along a belt sander with gravel. And then most of the tracks are littered with pops - which considering this is the quietest part of the album, is especially irritating. I had really looked forward to getting this on vinyl but it's not worth wasting the shelf space on a garbage press.
