An excellent pressing of solid, tasty jazz from a stellar group of musicians. Anyone who dislikes this is clearly not worth knowing. (4,5*)

Like a previous reviewer, this was a blind buy for me. I saw this record in the used bin at my local record store and decided to take a chance. Flat, quiet vinyl. I hear a wide soundstage with vibrant sound, especially the horns and percussion. Piano tone could be fuller and richer, but it's not bad. Bass is clear and distinct. Good separation of instruments. I enjoyed the music; at times there was a big band vibe to it.

This is incredible on so many levels. The music is so good and the pressing is perfect. I have 50+ BNC and TP and this has to be in the top 3 sound wise

Great release at an amazing price. I was not familiar with Dizzy Reece, but with that lineup, what could go wrong. A hidden gem for me, for sure.
-
Perfectly flat, centered, defect free vinyl. It plays SILENTLY. I worried for a teeny faint 2mm patch of non fill end of side 2 but my needle sails through without noise. This was new at £16 from Ama UK and for such low money its reference quality. As quiet as any UHQR or 1 Step. This is FAR from a given with Optimal of late. I lucked out majorly and i know it. The recording is excellent for a BN of the day, many of the BN Classics and 80ths are massively overrated for sound but not this one. Just brilliant all round imho!

On second copy, both warped, Blue Note is putting a lot of garbage out there, from the 75th series to Tone Poet it’s a crapshoot to get a flat pressing.
-
Just want to mirror what others have said already - great pressing, good sound, hidden gem etc. Thoroughly recommended.

My copy was well pressed, much better than some recent Optimal LPs I've received. YMMV on that front. The album is very nice also.
-
I love the trumpet. I gravitate to records with a strong lead trumpet player, so I was thrilled to see this release since I only own music by Dizzy Reece in which he is not the lead. That said, this is a good but not great record. There are no real stand outs. The sound quality is however, excellent. Given the relatively cheap price, it is worth getting. 4 stars.
